I get a kick out of people who complain that noises are distracting to pro ball players (or high-level college ball for that matter). Tiger Woods thorws a hissy fit if someone breaths too loudly during his swing (and a swing at a ball that is sitting absolutely STILL) yet we routinley watch 40,000 people scream and yell and clap while A-Rod tries to get his bat on Zumaya's 100 MPH fastball.
Noise should not bother a hitter and should be expected, as long as that noise is natural (as in no air horns.

That Tom Swodoba quote is great. Reminds me of the time that Angel Hernandez became the only umpire to eject a Seventh Inning Stretch singer. In the sixth inning of a Cubs-Rockies game at Wrigley, Hernandez called out Ron Coomer on a close play at home. Former Chicago Bears lineman Steve McMichael was the "guest conductor" for the Seventh Inning Stretch, and after finishing the song he told fans not to worry, adding that he would "have some speaks" with Hernandez after the game. Hernandez gave McMichael the thumb, something I'm guessing has never happened before or since, particularly considering that McMichael was in the press box the whole time.
